Wedding Supplies Can Really Mount Up

Monday, January 26th, 2009

At least the cost can! With so much to plan for and pay for with a wedding and reception, you can use all the help you can get. I never dreamed that our ceremony and reception would cost so much. We even thought about taking out a loan, just to get married.  Then there was the option of elopement, but we pushed that idea aside right away. We both wanted our big wedding with all of our friends and family around us. So, that meant finding another solution to the expense. We tried cutting down the guest list, but we both have big families so that was next to impossible.  There was maybe only ten people out of 300 that we could have crossed off our list. So, that wasn’t much of a savings.

We thought about cutting a few corners, like no bridesmaids or groomsmen, just a maid of honor and a best man.  But everyone was looking forward to being in our wedding party, and we couldn’t disappoint them. Besides they were close friends and we wanted them to be in our ceremony.  So, we figured we would just be in debt up to our eyeballs until we celebrated our golden anniversary. We had to figure out a way to get our wedding supplies without owing the country.

So, I started scanning the internet to see what kind of deals there may be out there for couples that don’t want to skimp on their wedding and reception, but don’t really have a lot of money to spend, and I found it.  There was everything from wedding decorations to wedding favors available at very affordable prices.  Even prices we could afford on our budget. I got the decorations, glassware for my reception tables, invitations, and more, all at a discount. Everything I needed for a beautiful wedding ceremony and reception. I was able to buy each of my bridesmaids and flower girl some very nice gifts, and he found what he needed for his groomsmen and ring boy too. There were even adorable wedding favors for each of our friends and families attending the reception. We got everything from a wedding guest book to centerpieces without breaking the bank. We were able to get all the wedding party supplies needed to have the ceremony and reception we wanted.

The best part  was, even thought these wedding supplies weren’t expensive, they looked expensive, and no one could tell the difference.  Everything was top notch and gorgeous. They all got a kick out of our wedding cake topper, which was one that depicted the humorous side of marriage, and it started our reception off with a few laughs. The whole evening was fantastic.  Lots of laughing, toasting with my beautiful champagne flutes and lots and lots of food.  People were snapping pictures all night long with the little disposable cameras we were able to afford. It was quite a night.

We got a great deal on the wedding favors for everyone too, and I had them all done up in wedding favor boxes that were so colorful and festive that it actually added to the décor of my tables. I couldn’t have dreamed up a more perfect wedding ceremony and reception. Everything was as we wanted it to be. Thank goodness I ran across the variety of wholesale wedding supplies to help us with the expenses.

I know in this day and age most people have three or four marriages in their life time, but for us, we only want to do this once. I’m just happy we could do it up right.

I’ve Got The Bridesmaid Gifts, You Take Care Of The Guys

Thursday, January 22nd, 2009

I love my fiance with all my heart but, sometimes, I just want to punch him out. I don’t know if it’s a man thing or it’s just him, but sometimes he can be so helpless. I’ve got so much to take care of, planning for this wedding and reception and he expects me to find gifts for the groomsmen, the best man and our Dads. What’s wrong with him? Is it really that difficult of a job? I’ll take care of my girls, you take care of your guys.

I’ve got fittings for me and my bridesmaids, and my flower girl to take care of. Then I’m going to check out wedding cakes at some of the bakeries on my list, not to mention caterers.  My day is already full. All he has is the fittings and buying gifts. He should be able to handle that.

There sure is a lot to planning a wedding.  Sometimes I think we’d be better off eloping, but I really want a big wedding with all of our family and friends. I guess I will probably end up helping him, after I take care of my flower girl, our Moms and the bridesmaid gifts. If I don’t they’ll probably end up with fast food gift certificates or something in that order. Besides, I’ve been checking out a lot of wedding items and accessories online and I’ve come across some pretty amazing gifts and favors. So maybe, I can at least give him some suggestions.

I know I’ve found the décor I want to go with for the ceremony and I was thinking about possibly a reception at the beach.  I think a beach party reception would really be fantastic. We could have tiki torches everywhere, because I plan on this reception lasting a while. There are so many neat accessories to make a beach reception a really super event. There are even beach themed place card holders and wedding favors. Just all kinds of decorations to help pull this off. Not only that, there is also a selection of beach themed bridesmaid gift ideas too, that I think my girls might really like. So, it’s settled, the beach it is.

When I told him my idea, he actually liked it.  He thought a reception by the water was a great idea. Our wedding will still be held in the church at 1:00 and the reception won’t start until about 3:00, so everyone will have time to go home and change into their comfortable beachwear. This is going to be so fantastic.

Now I’ve got to send out the invitations, pick out the beach décor I want to use, check the rental on the reception tables, and I guess help him pick out gifts for the guys too. It shouldn’t be hard with all the choices I’ve found to choose from. There are some nice mugs or shot glasses the guys would probably like.  Maybe I’ll suggest that to him. I still have no clue as to what to get for the Dads and Moms, so I guess I’ll put that off until later, and give us a little time to think about it. That’s our parents, so those gifts have to be very special.

So tonight we’re going to sit together and go over all the possibilities for groomsmen, best man, ring boy, flower girl, maid of honor, and the bridesmaids gift, and we’re not giving up until we have them all. I have a feeling it’s gonna be a long, long, evening.

Communion Favors For The Kids And Adults

Tuesday, January 20th, 2009

My daughter is having her first holy communion next weekend and I’ve been very busy getting her communion party together.  She will look so beautiful at her communion ceremony. After we went shopping she just had to try the whole outfit on and show her Dad.  She looked like a little bride with her gorgeous communion dress, veil and the lovely tiara we bought for her. It was like getting a glimpse of the future. Her Dad was totally speecless for a few minutes and I thought I saw a tear in his eye. He was probably thinking the same thing I was. About the day he’d have to walk her down the aisle and give her away at her wedding. Thank goodness that’s still quite a few years from now.

After her communion we are throwing a little party with friends and family. With decorations, food and communion favors for all the guests. I’ve found some lovely decorations that are appropriate for the occasion, beautiful decorations that will help to keep this party in perspective. A friend of mine suggested some type of banner saying something like, “Congratulations on your first Communion”, but, I thought that was a little tacky. This isn’t about a birthday or graduation, this is a day to celebrate Christ. As far as the food, since a lot of my guests will be children, we’re having chicken strips for the younger kids and sandwiches for the older kids, with lots of munchies, of course.  I’ve also ordered baked lasagna, salads and a quite a few desserts for the adults and the children.  We are going all out on this party. You only make your first holy communion once, and we want it to be a memorable one for her. All the invitations are out and everyone that is coming has answered, so I know exactly how many guests to count on. But I’m still gonna plan on about 10 extra, just in case someone changes their mind and is able to come.

I know a lot of people giving their child a communion party have lots of games, and prizes and maybe even a magician or something.  In fact I read about a lady that rented one of those rooms for the kids to bounce around in. I battled with myself on whether or not I wanted to go that route, but I figured we’d save something like that for her birthday, this day is suppose to be all about the Lord, and we’re trying to keep it that way. So, all of our party ideas will be concentrated on our Savior.

We’ve bought a beautiful medallion with a gold cross for our daughter with the date of her first holy communion engraved on the back. I know she will treasure it for years to come. I’ve also chosen some very nice religious communion party favors for all of our guests. Some that are perfect for children and then others more appropriate for the adults. We’ve also chosen lovely gifts for the God parents too. So, I think we have everything under control and we are ready for this very special day.  We have everything from the decorations to the holy communion favors, so now all we have to do is wait until the week end. I’ve even got my camera ready for the big day, and a beautiful frame for my daughters picture of her first holy communion. It will hang in the living room with her very first cross we ever bought her attached to the frame.

I know this day will live in our hearts and memories for years to come.
