My daughter is having her first holy communion next weekend and I’ve been very busy getting her communion party together. She will look so beautiful at her communion ceremony. After we went shopping she just had to try the whole outfit on and show her Dad. She looked like a little bride with her gorgeous communion dress, veil and the lovely tiara we bought for her. It was like getting a glimpse of the future. Her Dad was totally speecless for a few minutes and I thought I saw a tear in his eye. He was probably thinking the same thing I was. About the day he’d have to walk her down the aisle and give her away at her wedding. Thank goodness that’s still quite a few years from now.

After her communion we are throwing a little party with friends and family. With decorations, food and communion favors for all the guests. I’ve found some lovely decorations that are appropriate for the occasion, beautiful decorations that will help to keep this party in perspective. A friend of mine suggested some type of banner saying something like, “Congratulations on your first Communion”, but, I thought that was a little tacky. This isn’t about a birthday or graduation, this is a day to celebrate Christ. As far as the food, since a lot of my guests will be children, we’re having chicken strips for the younger kids and sandwiches for the older kids, with lots of munchies, of course. I’ve also ordered baked lasagna, salads and a quite a few desserts for the adults and the children. We are going all out on this party. You only make your first holy communion once, and we want it to be a memorable one for her. All the invitations are out and everyone that is coming has answered, so I know exactly how many guests to count on. But I’m still gonna plan on about 10 extra, just in case someone changes their mind and is able to come.

I know a lot of people giving their child a communion party have lots of games, and prizes and maybe even a magician or something. In fact I read about a lady that rented one of those rooms for the kids to bounce around in. I battled with myself on whether or not I wanted to go that route, but I figured we’d save something like that for her birthday, this day is suppose to be all about the Lord, and we’re trying to keep it that way. So, all of our party ideas will be concentrated on our Savior.

We’ve bought a beautiful medallion with a gold cross for our daughter with the date of her first holy communion engraved on the back. I know she will treasure it for years to come. I’ve also chosen some very nice religious communion party favors for all of our guests. Some that are perfect for children and then others more appropriate for the adults. We’ve also chosen lovely gifts for the God parents too. So, I think we have everything under control and we are ready for this very special day. We have everything from the decorations to the holy communion favors, so now all we have to do is wait until the week end. I’ve even got my camera ready for the big day, and a beautiful frame for my daughters picture of her first holy communion. It will hang in the living room with her very first cross we ever bought her attached to the frame.

I know this day will live in our hearts and memories for years to come.
